Our Environmental Commitment
At UYC, sustainability isn’t an afterthought, it’s a responsibility. We recognize the damage the fashion industry has done to the planet, and we refuse to be part of the problem. While we acknowledge that the most sustainable choices are repairing, thrifting, and upcycling, the demand for new apparel isn’t going away. That’s why we focus on making the first-hand market as responsible as possible by using better fabrics and ethical production methods.
Fashion brands, especially those with the most resources, should be leading this shift, but they aren’t. Instead of waiting for the big players to act, we’re pushing from the ground up. Our mission is to spark a movement of brands that challenge the industry, proving that profit shouldn’t come at the cost of the planet. That’s why we’re transparent about our processes and experiences. We don’t gatekeep, we share, because real change in fashion will only happen if we work together.
What We're Doing
- Better Materials
Our pieces are made with 100% GOTS-certified organic French Terry and Jersey fabrics from Turkey. Our supplier is also OEKO-TEX certified, meaning the dyes we use have a lower environmental impact, and wastewater from dyeing is properly treated before being released back into nature. These materials are safer for both people and the planet.
- Constant Improvement
We are always searching for even greener alternatives that use fewer resources. Sustainability is a journey, and we’re committed to taking it one step at a time.
- Reducing Microplastics
Our woven textiles with patterns currently use recycled polyester blended with conventional cotton and acrylic. This is a step in the right direction when comparing against the use of virgin polyester, but it is still far from ideal. We’re working closely with our supplier to find better alternatives that don’t contribute to microplastic pollution.
- Design Printing
Some of our styles are screen-printed. We currently use plastisol-based inks, which have a nice feeling, are high quality, and are durable, but we’re actively looking for better alternatives that balance sustainability and quality while working within our manufacturing partner’s capabilities.
